Dr Rahul Gajbhiye is a physician-scientist at the ICMR-National Institute for Research on Women's Health (formerly ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health), Mumbai, India. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, and a leading researcher in women's health and endometriosis in South Asia.

With over two decades of research experience, Dr Gajbhiye leads integrated programmes spanning clinical, translational, and population health research. His work is centred on endometriosis, with additional contributions to maternal health, male infertility, and neglected tropical disorders.

He has established one of India's largest clinical cohorts and biorepositories in endometriosis, enabling high-quality epidemiological and genetic research across diverse populations. He is the Principal Investigator of the ECGRI study (Clinical Phenotypes and Genetic Regulation of Endometriosis in Indian Women), which generated South Asia's first large-scale epidemiological and genome-wide association study in endometriosis.

Dr Gajbhiye holds a patent on peptide-based biomarkers for the non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis and has been listed among the Elsevier-Stanford Top 2% Scientists worldwide in 2024 and 2025.

He has received several prestigious fellowships, including the DBT-Wellcome Trust India Alliance Clinical and Public Health Intermediate Fellowship, the INSA Indo-Australia Early and Mid-Career Fellowship, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Fellowship (USA).

Dr Gajbhiye serves as a Board Member of the Asian Society of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis, International Ambassador for the World Endometriosis Society, and Research Advisor to the Endometriosis Society of India. He has contributed to national and international guidelines and policy frameworks to strengthen early diagnosis and multidisciplinary care for endometriosis.

He contributes to scientific publishing and peer review, including as Associate Editor for PLOS Global Public Health, and actively mentors medical students, postgraduate trainees, PhD scholars, and postdoctoral fellows in women's health research.

Committed to health equity, he has established Model Rural Health Research Units in Maharashtra, including District Nashik, strengthening research and healthcare delivery in underserved and tribal populations.
